Abstract
A problem that is often of interest in electromagnetics is the radiation pattern out of an opening in a metal plate, like a slot antenna. One means of determining the radiation pattern is a simulation method, such as the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. However, the calculation of the far field can be computationally overwhelming. This paper presents an extremely simple formulation that can be generated simultaneous to the FDTD calculation of the near field with very little additional computational resources.
