Abstract
A planar microstrip fed quasi-Yagi antenna has been developed, which demonstrates excellent radiation characteristics over a broad frequency range. In this paper, the concepts that have made the microstrip quasi-Yagi so successful are applied in the development of a conductor backed coplanar waveguide (CB-CPW) antenna with the same desirable radiation characteristics. An X-band prototype with CB-CPW feed is presented with a measured bandwidth of 27%, 14 dB front-to-back ratio, and lower than -16 dB cross polarization level at 9 GHz.
