  • Abstract
    In this modern world due to the increased number of different types of loads in the power system the voltage profile and the power quality is being affected. So one of the cheapest and widely used method to improve the voltage profile is to install capacitor banks. They are erected in the distribution substation and are connected to a bus where more number of loads are connected. Nowadays various industries are also using individual capacitor banks in order to get a high quality of power. This paper deals with the importance of capacitor banks in a system and its protection arrangements. The protection of capacitor banks are considered important to avoid mal operation of the relays which may lead to great damage. Two protection arrangements 1) Phase fault protection 2) Earth fault protection are designed and the simulated using Etap7 software.
