Abstract
Analysis of the performance of various communication networks is often realized by researchers using simulation tools which can be free or commercially oriented. Network simulator (v.2) is a free, powerful and worldwide used simulation tool but it is not equipped by a graphical interface and therefore users have to spend additional time to gain an ability to work with it. This considerably restricts its usage in educational processes. In this paper we provide detailed comparison of third party tools developed to enhance and simplify work with Network simulator and we also mention reasons why we developed our tool with name GUIns2 which provides not only a graphical interface for Network simulator but also supports other simulation based activities. GUIns2 is characterized with a focus on an every phase of the simulation process. To better understand our tool and its contribution we proposed and described one wired network simulation scenario. GUIns2 makes simulation capabilities of Network simulator more accessible to wider base of users.
