  • Abstract
One of the important issues needed to be addressed is message sequencing when scheduling message transmission in a passive-star coupled wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical network. Message sequencing addresses the order in which messages will be transmitted. And this issue has much effect on the performance of the networks. In this paper, we propose a new reservation-based multiple access scheme for the single-hop passive-star coupled WDM optical networks. The new proposed scheme considers timing relationships of the message transmission carefully with intention to reduce the amounts of unused time slots along the data channels resulting in its superior ability to reduce the unnecessary delay and enhance the utilization as its salient feature. The improvement of our proposed scheme in terms of average message delay can be observed from the results obtained by simulation.
