Abstract
The problem of robust control design for buildings under earthquake excitation is addressed. We consider an N-story building model in planar motion. The earthquake is considered as the external disturbance to the system. The uncertainties of the system are due to parameter variations and earthquake. By combining active control and base isolation, the control force is applied only to the first floor. We propose a robust control designs based on the Lyapunov approach. It is shown that the control of the proposed design is capable of rendering the N-story building practically stable
