Abstract
This paper focuses on the optimization of energy efficiency (EE) for BSs with distributed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) using an efficient antenna sleep strategy. A novel metric called sleep EE gain is proposed in this paper to evaluate the energy efficiency performance of sleep strategy in distributed MIMO systems. A related closed-form expression is developed to determine the optimum antenna sleep period and to optimize the proposed metric. Based on our analysis, we propose an efficient sleep strategy for distributed MIMO systems. Simulation results show that the proposed strategy can significantly improve the overall sleep energy efficiency gain of distributed MIMO systems.
