Abstract :
A PIN GaAs IC optical receiver has been demonstrated with excellent sensitivity and ECL logic level outputs. Less than a 0.5 dB sensitivity penalty was incurred due to this level of integration. This work is a demonstration of the high level of functionality that is achievable using only two GaAs ICs, within a small non-optimised package. It also illustrates some of the advantages of the PIN GaAs IC hybrid implementation of an integrated receiver over the OEIC implementation
