Abstract
When different methods for increasing the isolation between antennas are studied, the matching of antennas must be taken into account as it affects the observed isolation values. The effect of antenna matching can be removed by sequentially matching two antennas simultaneously at each frequency. In the paper the resulting isolation is called electromagnetic isolation. It gives a worst-case isolation that is independent of the antenna matching. The simultaneous matching is carried out using a recently developed formula that utilizes the theory of power waves. Two examples of the application of electromagnetic isolation to antenna design are provided.
