International cable fault statistics on synthetically insulated MV-cables

The authors´ aim to establish fault statistics for medium voltage cables with extruded insulation in the voltage range 10-30 kV. Four different groups of organic insulating materials have been considered; linear polyethylene (LDPE), cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) and polyvinylchloride (PVC). The procedures for voltage tests on cables provide a serious topic for discussion. The authors explain the present cable testing procedures, giving a critical assessment in some parts, and describe new developments in this field
