Abstract :
Corruption of images is a common problem in the areas of film and television broadcasting. There is much interest in methods which are able to remove the unwanted corruption in images while preserving important detail. Soft morphological filters are a class of non-linear filters which are related to the class of morphological filters. They retain most of the desirable properties of standard morphological filters while achieving a higher degree of robustness. This paper describes how methods for soft morphological filter design can be used in the removal of film and video corruption
