Abstract :
Monitoring of the marine environment is one of the keystones for improvement of tourism and other economic activities in the Adriatic Sea region, as well as sustainable development. It is performed by the flexible automatic system has been under development through 15/sup th/ years at the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries in Split. The system includes measuring stations, located at the representative positions along the Adriatic Sea. Various parameters of the marine/atmospheric environment are measured and data are transmitted in a real-time to the receiving centre, where they are automatically controlled, processed and stored in the database. Being updated every ten minutes, data are processed and graphically presented at the Internet Web pages.
