Abstract
This paper studies microstructured gratings made up by metal nanoparticles embedded in the dielectric. The two-dimensional problem of diffraction of a plane electromagnetic wave on such a structure has been solved within the dipolar-interaction approximation. A novel method of obtaining effective field expression is proposed. The frequency dependence of reflection coefficients on the grating parameters have been obtained. The dispersion relations for surface waves maintained by the grating are obtained. The research performed demonstrates that it is possible to use single-layer structures consisting of nanosized metal elements as frequency filters and slowing down systems in the IR and optical bands
