Abstract :
Presents the possibility of an alternative approach to the problem of clutter cancellation by applying a real receiving vector which could not be radiated by physically realizable antenna, or would not be obtained as vectorial equivalent of a positively semifinite hermitian coherency matrix of a target, but could be strictly perpendicular to the vector of incident disturbance causing its complete cancellation. The limitations of hitherto known methods are discussed for the case of polarimetric on receive radar and then the idea of a new optimum receiver using the new concept of virtual polarisation adaptation is demonstrated. The reception of partially polarized disturbances and signals can best explained by the Stokes four-sphere in four-dimensional real space of the Stokes parameters.
