Abstract
This article summarizes experience in the design, development and certification of COTS based components into advanced aviation systems. The UNIS company is involved in the development of aviation technology such as engine control units, multifunction displays, and special avionics for civil aircraft. Development of COTS avionics devices runs in strict accordance with DO-178B, DO-254, and DO-160 aviation standards. Aviation modules developed by UNIS can be integrated into any higher level avionics system via the CAN data bus with CANaerospace higher layer protocol. COTS based aviation modules developed by UNIS represent a unique solution for open distributed avionics systems that can be modified according to the customer´s needs.
