  • Abstract
A novel and low complex data modulation technique that can be easily embedded in an impulse radio (IR) ultra wideband (UWB) receiver is presented. The synchronization in the receiver will depend of the transmitted signal and not of internal time synchronization. The technique allows the time acquisition and synchronization to be achieved in the receiver. The modulation scheme is proposed for 2 bits; however, this technique is not limited to two bits and can be used for M-ary modulation. A receiver using the described technique has been designed simulated in mentor graphics for a TSMC 0.18 mum MMRF CMOS process with a power supply of +/-0.9v has a bit rate of 400 Mbits/s.
