Abstract :
Presented paper is focused on description of a developing system for monitoring patient head position after special ophthalmological operation called vitrectomy. For optimal recovery a correct position of patient´s head during postoperative time is important. The system consists of a wearable tilt monitoring device and a computer software application for remote controlling and data acquisition. The wearable device provides periodical tilt sensing using the digital MEMS accelerometer and logs the posture of the patient head into built-in flash memory. The patient is warned by sound alarm when posture of the head is incorrect. Signal processing, tilt angle calculation and calibrating the sensor is carried out by the microcontroller. Communication with the device is possible through the wireless interface. The computer software provides setting up the device and downloading measured data from flash memory. It is also designed for data browsing and analyzing. The presented device is combination of biofeedback and data logging system. Firstly it helps the patient to maintain correct head posture. Secondly it is a powerful diagnostic tool for ophthalmological specialists.
