Abstract :
Market liberalization and smart grid vision are the baselines that dictate the development of the present and future distribution network. Today research is oriented towards new technologies and analyzing their impact on future grid, towards the idea of creating a more reliable, secure and intelligent grid. Croatian distribution system is facing numerous, basic, problems more developed systems have handled a long time ago. For this reason they have created an ambitious plan with a goal to catch on advanced European countries and to create a good foundation for smart distribution network according to European SmartGrid technology platform. In this paper a timeframe for the development and implementation of a smart SCADA system into Croatian distribution network, supported by the proper ICT system, is presented. It gives a suggestion how less developed distribution operators could prepare their system for smart grid implementation.
