Abstract :
This paper presents the design and implementation of a converter with full-bridge topology that allows the regenerative brake in a DC motor. This converter presents three operation modes: non-controlled bridge rectifier, boost converter (switched rectified) and voltage source inverter. To perform optimal active power transference from the DC motor to the main source, a phase angle control on the voltage source inverter is realized. This phase angle is shifted leading the voltage source supply by a minimal angle to minimize the reactive power transference. The main purpose of the converter is transferring the maximum energy from the DC machine to the grid improving the efficiency of the complete system. When most of the energy is already regenerated the circuit disconnects the converter from the grid to avoid reactive power interchange and the remnant energy on the DC motor is wasted.
