  • Abstract
There has been a tremendous growth in the wireless communication networks and their applications around us. Different applications developed over wireless networks can have very different requirements. For some applications, protection from transmission errors might be of primary, whereas for other application the security and privacy of the information in transit might be the primary requirement. There are many different schemes for providing data security and privacy. Similarly many forward error correction schemes for unicast wireless communication systems also exist. Instead of putting separate efforts in data security and error correction, the novel scheme introduced in this work uses the cryptographic mechanisms for forward error correction. This scheme can be best utilized by applications that need to secure the sensitive data, as well as the protection against the transmission errors induced by noisy channels. It is also shown that this scheme not only achieves both the tasks but also gives a coding gain over the convolutional codes of the same rate. This is supported by the simulation results presented at the end.
