Abstract
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is remarkably effective for a range of neurological and psychiatric disorders that have failed pharmacological and other therapies. The therapeutic mechanisms of action are unknown. Four Parkinson´s disease (PD) patients are presented where the growth of pulse duration improved their clinical status. This gave us the opportunity to make an analysis of the results and hypothetical mechanisms based on fundamental notions such as rheobase and chronaxie as well as on the role of information management in the brain. The present study would pave the way to a deeper insight in clinical as well as in non clinical human performance application fields related to mental abilities and their connection with the information management in biological systems.
