Abstract :
The paper applies the Nucleotide Genomic Signal (NuGS) methodology to the comparative analysis of the transcription factor 7-like 2 (TCF7L2) gene in several species. The TCF7L2 gene encodes a high mobility group (HMG) box-containing a transcription factor that plays a key role in the Wingless-type (Wnt) signaling pathway, which was known for its roles in embryogenesis and cancer, but which turned out to be also involved in some key physiological processes in adult animals. In particular, the TCF7L2 gene is implicated in blood glucose homeostasis and its genetic variants have been associated with increased risk of Diabetes 2.
