Abstract :
With an ever-increasing global smartphone penetration, indoor positioning has become a hot topic of research. The software framework presented aims to overcome challenges in collecting sensor data from a multitude of devices using different smartphone platforms for a better understanding of RSSI-based and other sensor measurements in smartphone IPSs. Overcoming the variance in measurements stemming from constantly changing antenna construction from one device design to another and differences in readings coming from sensor measurement characteristics pose immense challenges to RSSI-based and hybrid IPSs. Furthermore the limitations and architectural characteristics of the leading smartphone platforms also pose as significant challenges. Sensor measurements from multiple devices from several platforms are presented.
