Abstract :
Content based image retrieval systems use the contents of the images to represent and access the images. Content basically refers to the image descriptors like color, texture and shape of the image. Among the different image features, edges are the important one as edges represent mainly the local intensity variations. But in the case of color images in order to obtain satisfactory results, we must consider the color of the image during retrieval processes. This paper describes a new method in which both edge and color features of the images are considered for generation of feature vectors. Discrete Wavelet Transform is used to preserve the detailed contents of the images along with the reduction of the size of the feature vector. A comparison study on the effect of the proposed method on YCbCr and HSI color spaces is also presented in this paper.
