  • Abstract
In order to extract and measure facial wrinkles accurately and quickly, combined with the simulation of the wrinkle growth, we put forward an extraction method of facial wrinkles on the basis of the algorithm of surface fitting with splines. In our method, we regard the wrinkle area as the superposition of a continuous smooth surface and wrinkle texture. The method uses the score of second partial derivatives of the fitting curved surface as the smoothness constraint of the surface. In addition, we quantify the wrinkle by the parameters including quantity of wrinkles, average depth, maximum depth, absolute area and novel P80/P60 parameters. The experimental results of wrinkles on lateral canthus area show that the approach in this paper can extract wrinkles accurately, and this approach can also illuminate the three-dimensional details of facial wrinkles. This approach is convenient in measurement, and wrinkles have no deformation during the measurement, which can effectively achieve three-dimensional extraction and quantification of wrinkles.
