Abstract
A numerical assessment is given for a two-dimensional detection algorithm for breast cancer, using monostatic and multistatic configurations. The phantom is modeled as a coaxial cylinder with skin layer where a small tumor is added in three different positions, spanning from an outer position near the skin to an inner position near the center of the phantom. Standard dipoles are used in the frequency range 1-3 GHz for the illumination. The reconstruction is performed using the MUltiple SIgnal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm. Results show that the multistatic approach can outperform the monostatic one especially when the number of collected field points becomes small.
