Abstract
Traditional e-learning approaches are not appropriate for in-classroom interactive learning due to lack of the on-line interaction attribute. With the card mode, reader/writer mode and peer-to-peer mode supported in NFC (near field communication) technology, the issues in traditional e-Learning methods can be largely enhanced. In this work, we propose an NFC-based interactive and ubiquitous learning platform (NU-learning) which resolves these issues with four innovative functions including interactive teaching, creative teaching materials designs, dynamic grouping, and gradual learning. Students could choose tags of different levels of difficulty via the contact of NFC phone to achieve the effect of gradual learning and improve realtime interactivity. To compare with the traditional e-Learning approaches, a field experiment was conducted and the questionnaires were distributed to understand the willingness and difference after adopting this platform. The result showed that the students using NU-learning Platform are more willing to answer questions actively and the interactivity is increased by 173% which shows that the proposed NU-learning model can efficiently enhance the interactive teaching in class and out of class.
