Abstract
In context of a low cost and low power consumption wireless network, a two-way wireless communication network for Smart Grid Access network is proposed in this paper. With the aim of a network efficiency and low cost data collection, several low cost sub-Ghz wireless transceivers for 868 Mhz band have been studied and consequently a suitable hardware is chosen based on transmission performance, power consumption and network protocol stack. With that selected transceiver, a Smart Grid Home Gateway device is designed and an efficient wireless Smart Grid Access network based many clusters is proposed for a typical urban environment. Advantages of this network are simple deployment, low cost and low power consumption. By using NS-2 network simulation, packet loss and network delay time for different network topologies have been evaluated, then an optimum network topology is proposed.
