Abstract
This article presents a novel 11 GHz 2-port antenna array design for mobile phone applications with diverse end-fire radiation patterns. The constructed prototype uses novel LIM (Laser Induced Metallization) technologies of ITRI to implement two symmetrical patch antennas closely integrated at both side areas of a corner of a mobile phone casing successfully. The antenna grounds and radiating patches are respectively formed on inside and outside surfaces of the casing without occupying limited available space of the mobile phone circuit board. Good isolation can also be achieved between the two antenna ports. The proposed antenna solution can be used for MIMO, beamforming or beam-switching applications in the future.
