Abstract :
There is need to develop fault detection techniques for reliable real-time diagnosis of axial-flux permanent magnet machines as they are now widely used in a variety of applications. Thus this paper presents detection techniques for interturn short circuit in an axial-flux permanent magnet machine based on a combination of torque and current monitoring using finite element analysis and experimental validation. Using fast Fourier transform, fault features are extracted from the line current in steady-state. Furthermore, these features are tracked during startup transient through a decomposition of the analytical signal of the line current using the wavelet transform. Results obtained overcome the transient detection of interturn faults using current signature analysis.
