Abstract
Residential microgrid load modeling is a new challenge that has received increased attention in recent years. Traditional state-of-art load modeling methods are not able to reflect the details of the residential loads proficiently. In addition, microgrid load modeling serves as a foundation for emerging smart grid technologies, such as microgrid planning, smart building design and demand-side energy management. In this paper, a Major Energy Consumption (MEC) event based load modeling and identification method was proposed for residential microgrids. First, a MEC event based single house load model was formulated. This was used as the basic unit model for the entire simulation procedure. Next, each event was simulated using multiple parameters with probabilistic patterns in the target residential microgrid. These model parameters were derived via the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm. Finally, the case study results of a real residential microgrid was provided to validate the method.
