Abstract
Packet loss occurs when one or more packets across various computer network drop before reaching destination. The era of wireless communications has brought the evaluation of distributed mobile computing and communications anytime anywhere to a reality. This paper presents an efficient survey of packet loss probability of various wireless sensor networks. It also describes packet loss overview and causes, because of which packet loss occurs. It describes the effect on probability based on various parameters used in the respective papers of the authors. And based on this study we have come to the point that some security mechanisms must be conceptualized specially in MANET to reduce the effect of packet loss probability, especially where there is no centralization. In addition we have analyzed different parameters that effect packet loss probability using different models such as Admission control method, Kalman filter, Markov chain modelling , Gaussian Traffic model, Erlang B model. We highlight effect of parameters on packet loss probability and comparisons of various wireless networks in context to packet loss probability.
