Abstract :
This paper discusses harmonic distortion in the modern fine yarn textile industrial power system. Operation of textile industry with large number of non linear load has an impact on the power quality at the connected electric network. Harmonic distortion is one of the most important phenomena, which affects the plant distribution network as well as grid performance. A case study is conducted in textile plant at Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu state in India to study the harmonic voltage and current distortions exists in the system. Class-A compliance power quality analyzer is used for measurement. The impact of harmonics is analyzed based on measurements and subsequent calculations. It is found that the harmonic distortion is invariably present with in the distribution system of the plant and introduces losses in the electric system.
