Abstract
In this paper an algorithm is introduced which calculates the region of stability (ROS) of a nonlinear dynamical system. The search for a maximum ROS is based on Lyapunov stability theory, formulated as a constraint optimisation problem. This multimodal problem is solved by a cascaded evolutionary algorithm. R-functions are used to enhance the estimation of contour and size of the ROS.
