  • Abstract
    In order to compare braking performance of dual torus hydrodynamic retarderwith different blades, the braking performances of dual torus hydrodynamic retarder with the bowed blade and different angle straight blades are calculated. The internal flow fields of different blade hydrodynamic retarder are numerically simulated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. The braking torque, the distribution of velocity, pressure field and turbulence kinetic energy in fully oil-filling condition, and air loss in idle condition are obtained under different rotor rotational speeds. Comparison with the braking performances of different blades shows that numerical method has higher accuracy, and the bowed blade dual torus hydrodynamic retarder has good braking performance, ensures the strength and stiffness of the blade, and air loss of the bowed blade could be smaller.
