  • Abstract
The mixing characteristics of Mach 2 elliptic jet, with rectangular tabs at the elliptic nozzle exit placed for the orientations of tabs along the major axis and along the minor axis are carried out, at different levels of nozzle expansion. It is found that the orientation of the tabs along both minor and major axis is found to affect the overall development of the jet. The centerline pressure decay results of uncontrolled and controlled jets at different nozzle pressure ratios clearly show that the jet with tabs along minor axis enhances the jet mixing and tabs along major axis retards the mixing, compared to the uncontrolled jet. The contour plots taken at various axial locations reveal that the tabs along minor axis bifurcates the jet in to two parts, as a result, there is no evidence of axis switching in the jet with tabs along minor axis. The shadowgraph visualization reveals that the waves present in the core of jet with tabs along minor axis is weaker than the jet with tabs along major axis and the uncontrolled jet.
