Group identification from visitor movement data: VAST 2015 mini-challenge 1

This paper describes an advanced set of methods used to analyze and visualize group behavior in the VAST 2015 MC1 challenge data. The MC1 challenge was to characterize visitor groups based on the movement and check-in data. We describe different analysis and visualization methods used to identify the groups of visitors based on co-occurrence and colocation of visitors within the park. Based on the groups identified, different group characteristics and preferences were inferred from the dataset, thereby validating the methods described in the paper.
