Abstract :
Shelf management was initially developed for CompactPCI systems by the industry standards organization, PICMG (PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group), in 2000, which was based on IPMI (intelligent platform management interface) and was developed for servers. Since then, the original shelf management specification (PICMG 2.9 R1.0 System Management Specification) has been greatly refined for use in ATCA (AdvancedTCA) systems and later for mTCA (microTCA) systems. A modified version of the shelf management specification has also been adopted by VITA (VME International Trade Association) for the VITA 46.11 “System Management of VPX” specification, which was released earlier this year.AXle is an open modular instrumentation standard based on AdvancedTCA providing high performance instrumentation for physics, semiconductor test and aerospace as well as other industries involved in test and measurements This presentation will compare the use of shelf management in an AXle application to the use of shelf management in A TCA systems. Attendees will learn the basic background of the ATCA shelf managers as well as the differences between the ATCA shelf manager and the AXle shelf manager.
