Abstract :
Mobile and machine-to-machine (M2M) of IoT will dominate the traffic in access networks in 2020 and beyond. Fifth generation (5G) mobile envisages disruptive innovation toward 2020 from current 4G or Long Term Evolution (LTE)/LTE-Advanced (LTE-A), targeting at x1000 growth of the total capacity, x10 increase of the peak rate, and low latency less than 1ms. In this talk, at first we will address why the latency does matter for mobile and networked services for IoT. Next, we will discuss a coordinated role of optical and radio access network to provide a solution path to the latency reduction in 5G radio access, including high-speed optical and radio links and the converged digital signal processing for optical and radio signal.
