  • Abstract
This paper presents a pulse-width modulation (PWM) strategy of a matrix converter for reducing input current harmonics under high-power-factor loads. The behavior of a matrix converter determines by switching pattern during one control period. This paper describes the switching pattern for reducing input current harmonics. The order of connections for one output phase is reversed compared with the original switching pattern for reducing output voltage harmonics. In addition, the number of commutations in three phases during one control period is three for reducing switching losses. The switching pattern is selected by instantaneous effective value theory which evaluates harmonics during one control period. The effectiveness of the proposed control method has been verified experimentally.
