Abstract :
In this paper design and simulation of reconfigured microstrip patch antenna using metamaterial is proposed. A well known technique of effective substrate thickness is incorporated to improve the impedance bandwidth. The U shape modified ground plan with defective meander shape parasitic patch has been designed and the simulated results are presented. A much more improved bandwidth is obtained when patch is loaded with an open meander line shape. Permeability (μρ) and permittivity (£r) are reconfigured using the Nicolson-Ross-Weir (NRW) method. The simulation parameters satisfy required limits hence making the proposed antenna suitable for C-X Band applications. The antenna is simulated using IE3D software. The percentage impedance bandwidth obtained is 78.79%.
