Abstract
Aerobics is one of the best exercises for a full-body or functional workout. However, the flexibility of aerobics also makes it difficult to estimate calories consumption. The single accelerometer method developed in [20] failed to provide an accurate model due to the complicated movement of aerobics. This manuscript proposed a method to accurately estimate the calories consumption. The proposed method took advantage of Microsoft Kinect to track 10 body joints of exercisers. Since each node could be considered as a 3-axis accelerometer mounting the corresponding joint, so the multiple regression model was exploited to form an estimation model. The accuracy and robustness of the estimation model was evaluated in the experimental studies. The results indicated that the calories consumption of aerobics could be estimated accurately with 14 times of training.
