Abstract :
The vehicle to grid (V2G) system can provide frequency regulation for grid and stable electricity network. Several pilot projects are ongoing in the United States. The stable electricity network is important for national security. Fluctuating frequency can be balanced by stabilising generation and load to equal. Power stations transfer electricity through substations to military bases. In network failure situation, military bases can form islanded microgrid. General purpose vehicles can provide V2G services to the microgrid. While electricity price is varying during the time, V2G can provide profit by charging during lower price and discharging during higher price. The paper closes with suggestions for future demonstrations and pilot programs that will assist in further defining the technical requirements.
