Abstract
A complex medium acting as THz modulator for nanonetwork communications, is introduced in this paper. The proposed device stems from the incorporation of a V-beam electrothermal actuator as a tuning apparatus in an electric field driven LC (ELC) resonator. When a suitable actuation voltage is enforced on the electrothermal microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), a programmable metamaterial, displaying modulation capability along with enhanced bandwidth tunability, is achieved. The advantages of the proposed structure are comprehensively investigated by means of the finite element method (FEM).
