Abstract :
To support the future envisaged services that require a dynamic provision of wavelength paths, we have developed a dynamic optical path network utilizing the multi-stage routing capable selective switch-based optical cross-connect architecture. We evaluated and compared the performance of the developed network to that of conventional optical WDM networks. We also estimated the impact of intra-node parameters, i.e. the number of wavelength groups per fiber and the number of substituted 1xn switching devices applied for each outgoing link, on the network performance. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed network offers almost the same performance as the conventional network while enabling a significant hardware scale reduction. A trade-off between the hardware scale reduction and the performance offset from the conventional network was also clarified.
