Abstract
Case-based reasoning (CBR) can be used for counseling troubled students. The system was built using a CBR called the "case-based system." In this research, the system is expected to assist the academic advisor to solve the problems faced by every student. The selection of the CBR on the system to be designed is based on the results of observation and preliminary interviews, which are conducted by some academic advisors at several campuses. The academic advisor will provide solutions to a troubled student, which are not based on raw rules but based on empirically or problems experienced that have never been addressed before. This is in accordance with the capabilities of the CBR that has an efficiency of time due to using old knowledge and being able to adapt new knowledge, plus the ability to support the ultimate justification of past cases with the 4REs: retrieve, reuse, revised, and retain. The case-based system model is suitable to be applied to deal with the diversity of student issues with varying parameters.
