Abstract :
In this paper, a compact multi-band frequency reconfigurable metamaterial (MTM) antenna has been proposed for mobiles. PIN diodes have been used to realize the switching application by controlling the bias voltage. With suitable selection of switch configuration, the proposed antenna offers frequency re-configurability by exhibiting wideband/multi-band behavior and covers various wireless standards such as GPS, GSM 1900, WCDMA, Bluetooth, LTE, Wi-Fi, WiMAX and WLAN. The radiation characteristics such as gain, radiation efficiency and patterns are consistent throughout the working bands. The proposed MTM antenna offers a compact size with dimensions of 35 × 35 × 1.6 mm3 which makes it suitable for use in mobile units.
