Abstract
Additive manufacturing is opening up new ground for innovations in low-volume production due to faster and cheaper prototyping, reduced lead times, and shorter supply chains. As a result, 3D metal printing may present opportunities for electric machine manufacturing. Also, the interest in the research community in determining the quality, reliability, and performance of 3D printed machines is growing dramatically. This paper analyzes the mechanical performance and reliability of an interior permanent magnet synchronous machine, that uses the additive manufacturing process of 3D printed metal.
