Abstract :
A compact planar monopole antenna with dimensions of 34mm × 25mm × 1.6mm, which could provide an ultra-wide impedance bandwidth with the range from 2.40 GHz to 11.88 GHz is presented in this paper. The antenna consists of a small-sized ground plane, a hexagonal radiating patch, and two L-shaped parasitic strips close to the microstrip-line. Resorting to the two parasitic strips, two additional resonant modes are created successfully to aid the impedance match improvement in the lower frequency range, which accomplishes the significant bandwidth enhancement accordingly. The simulated results demonstrated that, the proposed antenna exhibits relatively stable radiation characteristics within such wideband frequency range. Benefitting from its compact configuration and wideband characteristic, the proposed antenna is quite suitable for WLAN, WiMAX and UWB wireless communication application.
