Perspectives on Korean high-speed Internet access market: Market structure and deployment

In this paper, the current status of the explosive Korean broadband high-speed Internet access market is analyzed with respect to a deployment of Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL). Furthermore, Porter´s Five Forces model was applied to the analysis. The authors found that Korean broadband access market is explosively growing and that CATV modern Internet access service is growing at a low rate. On the contrary, more and more local broadband Internet access service users are getting connected to ADSL. Indeed, the authors converted seven ADSL service providers´ offering prices into US dollars. The result is that Hanaro Telecom offers the cheapest ADSL service in the world and Korea is the country of the cheapest ADSL service.
